Alex van den Heever with the finalist certificate
The SA College for Tourism Tracker Academy, founded in 2010, is a proud finalist of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Tourism for Tomorrow Award.
Last year the Tracker Academy was invited by the WTTC to enter in a competition for the Tourism for Tomorrow Award.
In February the college was informed that the international judging panel had shortlisted the Tracker Academy as one of three finalists for the People Award, which recognises organisations that are developing people for the benefit of tourism.
The academy’s application was, according to the awards manager, ‘received with great interest amongst 174 applications from 56 countries on six continents’.
Alex van den Heever attended the awards ceremony held during the opening banquet of the WTTC’s Global Summit in Sanya, Hainan Province in China, from 23 -25 April. All Alex’s travel and accommodation expenses were covered by WTTC.
Unfortunately the Tracker Academy was not judged as the winner. Nevertheless, it is still a great honour for such a small and young project to be given exposure of this nature internationally.
