Peace Parks Foundation was privileged to participate in a major event kindly hosted by the Swedish Postcode Foundation
Richard Branson and Minister Olofsson on contractors that contribute to a better world.
On 29 April, Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group and Virgin Unite Foundation in Stockholm attended the PostkodLotteriet’s event on social entrepreneurship.
– If my company can reach out and show how we can contribute to a better world, it can hopefully inspire others to undertake similar initiatives, “says Richard Branson.
Maud Olofsson, Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden and Minister for Enterprise and Energy participated in the event. The Minister talked about what she would like to do to create better conditions for social entrepreneurs to operate in Sweden.
‘The world faces a number of major global challenges that must be resolved. Social entrepreneurs are able and willing to contribute to solutions to create a better world. What distinguishes social entrepreneurs is that they are working with social innovation and change in several areas such as environment, climate, health care and research, education and poverty reduction.’
– To address the global challenges we face, we need business leaders and politicians who understand the commercial initiative to create sustainable solutions to social and global problems, “said Niclas Kjellström-Matseke, CEO Swedish PostkodLotteriet.
The theme of the event was: Social Entrepreneurship – Creating a Better World through an Innovative Approach.
The event also involved Professor Willem van Riet of Peace Parks Foundation, who talked about how they were working to bring about peace and sustainable development in Southern Africa. Peace Parks Foundation is currently working to establish an office in Sweden.
All participants will work pro-bono when they are engaged in work on social entrepreneurship.
