The Society For Conversation GIS Scholarship 2018

Applications for the Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) Global Scholarship Program for 2018 is now open! This is not a typical scholarship program. Rather, it is a support program that covers SOME of the costs to allow candidates to receive top level GIS training and attend and present their work at two of the best Conservation GIS conferences in the world: Esri and SCGIS.

Deadline for applications is Monday, 08 January 2018. Kindly also note the eligibility and obligations sections in the application form.

The standard SGIS Scholar program provides PARTIAL funding, but qualifying candidates can also apply for to EFN that will cover any successful applicant’s entire participation costs. However the additional funding they provide only applies to this specific list of countries:

  • LATIN AMERICA: Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname,
  • ASIA: Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam,
  • AFRICA: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Dem. Republic of Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Republic of Congo, Uganda, Zambia
  • OCEANIA: Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands.

To summarize, applicants from the qualifying countries that also meet the EFN eligibility criteria (see list of criteria here) will have all their costs covered if successful, but they do need to submit two application forms.

The 2018 programme will span 4 weeks and includes:
