Dutch Postcode Lottery supports Peace Parks Foundation

On 4 February 2010, Peace Parks Foundation was the very fortunate recipient of €2.9 million from the Dutch Postcode Lottery

John Loudon and Frits Strietman, Board Members of Peace Parks Foundation, proudly received the cheques from the Managing Director of the Dutch Postcode Lottery, Sigrid van Aken. The Lottery, which is the largest charity lottery in the Netherlands, contributes 50 percent of its annual profit to carefully selected aid organisations and charities concerned with bettering the lives of people and of nature.
The amount of €900 000 was received as an annual unearmarked donation. A staggering €2 million was received for a special project: the Futi Elephant Corridor. This special project will create a “corridor” along the Futi River, to allow for free movement of elephants between the Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa and the Maputo Special Reserve in Mozambique.

More specifically, the vision for the Futi Corridor is of an established and consolidated core protected area across international boundaries. The Corridor will stimulate and promote economic development, whilst safeguarding the unique biodiversity that is supported and cooperatively and sustainably managed by the two countries and local communities. Peace Parks Foundation is extremely grateful to the Dutch Postcode Lottery for rewarding this ground-breaking project.
Since Peace Parks Foundation became one of the Postcode Lottery beneficiaries in 2002, it has received over €10 million, which has had a very major and positive impact on the development of southern Africa’s TFCAs.
Peace Parks Foundation is very grateful to be one of the now 75 beneficiaries, which this year received donations totalling a record high of more than €256 million from the 2009 revenues.

The Postcode Lottery has, for the 20th year, increased its support to its beneficiaries and has, during those years, paid out a total of just over €3 billion to good causes.
