Dutch Postcode Lottery donation

John Loudon and Frits Strietman, Peace Parks Foundation Directors, proudly receive the cheque from Managing Director of the Dutch Postcode Lottery, Sigrid van Aken.

Peace Parks Foundation has secured a €7 million donation from the Dutch Postcode Lottery over the next five years.

On 9 February, Peace Parks Foundation was the very fortunate recipient of €1.4 million from the Dutch Postcode Lottery. The Lottery, which is the largest charity lottery in the Netherlands, contributes 50 percent of its annual profit to carefully selected aid organisations and charities concerned with bettering the lives of people and of nature. Peace Parks Foundation was very pleasantly surprised that the usual annual donation of €900.000 was increased to a new category of € 1.4 million. This means that over the next five years, the Foundation will receive a minimum donation of €7 million from the Lottery!

Peace Parks Foundation is extremely grateful to the Dutch Postcode Lottery which, with this donation, reconfirms its trust and belief in the work the Foundation undertakes to establish cross-border parks in Southern Africa.

The Good Causes Gala was held in the Singer Museum in Laren in the Netherlands, where the beneficiaries received their donations. Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands was the guest of honour. In her speech she highlighted that sometimes simple ideas can have great effects for planet earth.

Peace Parks Foundation was especially honoured that Princess Máxima used the example of Dr Rupert, as someone who had this great, relatively simple idea, to create nature parks on and over the borders of countries in Southern Africa, and that this idea has now proven to be successful to the benefit of humans and nature in the region.

Since Peace Parks Foundation became one of the Postcode Lottery beneficiaries in 2002, it has received over €11 million, which has had a major and positive impact on the development of Southern Africa’s TFCAs.

Peace Parks Foundation is very grateful to be one of the now 83 beneficiaries, who this year received donations totalling a record high of more than €270 million from the 2010 revenues. The Postcode Lottery has, for the 21st year, increased its support to its beneficiaries and has, during those years, paid out a total of over €3 billion to good causes.
