The Southern African Wildlife College Trust (SACET), in collaboration with the Southern African Wildlife College, has over the years contemplated the possibility of running a specialised, hands-on exclusive “outreach study course” at the Wildlife College, intended for devotees of the bushveld, game reserves and supporters of environmental conservation.

The course, which is now a reality, is planned for 13 – 18 October 2011 and is aimed at giving participants an exclusive insight into conservation issues and wildlife management, whilst also allowing for a socially interactive time together.

At the outset, participants will be given an introduction to the Southern African Wildlife College, the programmes it offers, its business direction and objectives whilst also explaining the SACET bursary and bequest programme.

During the five-days that guests will spend at the Wildlife College, issues such as elephant management in the Greater Kruger National Park, which includes the numerous private game reserves to the west, and the current rhino poaching crisis will be addressed. Also included in the programme is tracking in the wild, on-foot and in vehicles as well as talks on birds, mammals and invertebrates by experts in their field.

Night drives, star orientation, bush dinners and discussion groups around the campfire are some of the other activities included in the course. The programme wouldn’t be complete without topics such as transfrontier parks, human/wildlife conflict management, community-based natural resource management, soil erosion, water catchment and fire management, which form part of the line-up.

Given the select nature of the course, numbers are obviously limited for this exciting programme entitled “Introductory Wildlife Management and Environmental Conservation Study Course”.

Interested parties are encouraged to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. According to SACET founder trustee, Countess Sylvia Labia who has been instrumental in realizing this course, all activities and talks are optional but given the calibre of the course and the speakers, it is something not to be missed.

Included in the course costs are all activities including study notes, transfers from Eastgate Airport in Hoedpruit, breakfasts, light lunches, dinners, wine, beer, cool-drinks, bush snacks and refreshments, as well as comfortable guest accommodation in superior safari tents overlooking the bush within the campus perimeter fence.
