Peace Parks Mourns the Passing of Namibia’s President Hage Geingob

The late President Geingob, Honorary Patron of Peace Parks Foundation meets Peace Parks Foundation’s vice-chairman and former president of Mozambique, Mr Joaquim Chissano, on 4 February 2016.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Namibia’s President Hage Geingob, at the age of 82. In 2016, he accepted the invitation to become an Honorary Patron of Peace Parks. Throughout his time in this position, he offered his full support of transboundary conservation and the vital role it plays in regional integration and development in the Southern African Development Community region.

President Geingob leaves behind a significant conservation legacy of spearheading ownership of natural resources by Indigenous and local people through the community conservancies concept.

Werner Myburgh, CEO of Peace Parks Foundation

Namibia is a crucial nation state within the transboundary landscapes where Peace Parks is operational. It is partner to the /Ai /Ais-Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, as well as the Iona-Skeleton Coast and Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Areas. Namibia is also the first and only country in Africa to have its entire coastline protected through a national parks network.

Our sincere condolences to President Geingob’s family and the people of Namibia.
