Supporting the SA College for Tourism

How can you support the college?

Donors wishing to support the SA College for Tourism can do so in three ways – by sponsoring a bursary through the adopt-a-student programme, by making a financial contribution towards the operational costs of the college and/or its Tracker Academy or by making a donation to the SA College for Tourism endowment fund. The donation options are explained below.

Bursaries

Students of the SA College for Tourism qualify for full non-refundable bursaries to cover the spectrum of their training at the college. This of course means finding sponsors and supporters to help pay for the costs of the training. Peace Parks Foundation launched the adopt-a-student programme in 2005 to assist individuals – all unemployed young men and women from previously disadvantaged and economically deprived circumstances – to enrol at the college and gain the knowledge and develop the skills needed to enter the tourism industry of southern Africa.

Adopt-a-Student programme

Your gift of a one-off, annual donation in the amount of ZAR 90,000 (€5,200/US$5,800/ £3,400) per student per year will cover a student’s travel to and from the college, tuition and accommodation, meals and refreshments, training materials, equipment, textbooks, uniforms and industry-related field trips for a hospitality student throughout her year-long sojourn at the college.

An amount of ZAR R110 000 (€6,300/US$7,100/£4,900) will do the same for a tracker trainee.

The Endowment Fund

Thanks to the generosity of its donors, SA College for Tourism was able to establish an endowment fund in 2009. The fund is under the direct control of Mrs Gaynor Rupert, chairperson of the board of directors, and the audit committee of the college.

The sole purpose of the endowment fund is to financially sustain the work of the college in times when funding for its regular operations is not readily obtainable. This means that neither the capital sum, nor the interest earned, may be used in the ordinary course of events.

Donors who wish to safeguard the future of the college by boosting the endowment fund may make a contribution in the form of a one-off payment, or by way of monthly and/or annual instalments.

Tax benefits explained above also apply to endowment donors.

Contact Claire Binneman-Carretti for more information on any of the options mentioned.
