MR WERNER MYBURGH
Mr Werner Myburgh is the CEO of Peace Parks Foundation. His appointment at the beginning of April 2008 has come at a time when the Foundation will increasingly assist governments in the northern sections of SADC in their development of peace parks, of which the Kavango-Zambezi, Malawi/Zambia, Liuwa Plain/Mussuma and Lower Zambezi/Mana Pools TFCAs are areas of focus.
After completing his ecology studies at Potchefstroom University (now the University of the Northwest), Werner gained experience in a variety of fields, including project design, development, management and monitoring; transfrontier conservation area initiatives; and intergovernmental and multi-sectoral negotiations.
He joined the Peace Parks Foundation in 1998 and worked as project coordinator and later project manager before his appointment, in 2007, as chief operating officer. He was part of the team responsible for facilitating the establishment of the Kgalagadi; Great Limpopo; and Ai-Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Parks, as well as negotiating the Memoranda of Understanding for the Limpopo/Shashe, Maloti/Drakensberg, Malawi/Zambia and Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Areas.
He is a member of the steering committee of the Limpopo National Park and a management committee member of the Maputo Special Reserve, both in Mozambique. He serves on the Board of Directors of Peace Parks Foundation, SA College for Tourism and Southern African Wildlife College. He is also an accomplished speaker at international symposiums and conferences.
